THE CATS ON THE JOB PROGRAM
The San Francisco SPCA (sfspca.org) sponsors the Cats On The Job Program, a Green Program dedicated to the lifetime adoption of undersocialized and feral cats into businesses and residences to providing ongoing companionship and rodent control. Managed by the Cat Assistance Team, an SF/SPCA Volunteer group, cats are available for placement, typically as pairs.

See our available Cat pairs.

SPECIAL NEEDS CATS
Special Needs Cats are typically shy or undersocialized cats that do not show well in a shelter environment. They need to establish a trusting relationship with a human guardian to fully express themselves. These cats would not normally be considered adoptable by most shelters, but thanks to the SF/SPCA and their C.A.T. volunteers, they are taken into foster homes and given the chance of adoption without going into the shelter. These cats are available on a foster-to-adopt basis.

See our available Special Needs cats.

Kitty and Boogar are a bonded pair. They are between 2 and 3 years old. Kitty is a small, short-haired tortishell female. Boogar is a medium, short-haired black and white male. He is FIV positive. Boogar is territorial and should not be around other male cats. Both cats like to be petted and were likely former pets. Their friendship blossumed into kittens last summer which caught the attention of a C.A.T. volunteer. They in turn were caught, spayed/neutered and their kittens adopted. Their temporary new environment is a backyard with heated cat houses. They need to be adopted together as a pair. If you are interested in them, please contact Volunteer Cindy at cindy@SFWCat.com or 415 706-4727.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAT "MAXXIE"

Maxxie is a "Special Needs" cat due to shyness. She likes to be petted and seeks affection once she has established a trusting relationship with her human. Maxxie is 4 years old, female, with wonderful black/white spots. She loves to play and chase string toys. She has been around other cats all her life, and should not be an only cat. If you are interested in getting to know Maxxie, she is available on a "foster to adopt" basis, where you can check her out and she can get to know you. Contact Volunteer cindy at cindy@SFWCat.com or 415 706-4727 to meet Maxxie.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPECIAL NEEDS AND CATS ON THE JOB?
Neither "Special Needs" nor "Cats On The Job" cats show well in a shelter environment, as cats are very sensitive to changes in environment. Most Special Needs Cats are former pets that were abandoned or lost. They have had to fend on their own for a period of time, but with trust and time, can build bonds with humans. Special Needs Cats are available for private adoption on a 'foster-to-adopt' basis. Most cats chosen for the Cats On The Job Program have had little socialization and have lived some or all of their lives outside. They candidates are selected, adopted and relocated through a formal process into businesses and backyards. For more information on either Program, please contact cindy@SFWCat.com.
